Editorial Policy
How we do journalism.
Last updated: 17/05/2026
This is how we work. What we report, how we report it, who is accountable, and where the lines are. If something on the site doesn’t match what’s here, we want to know.
Our mission
London Baithead is an independent news platform covering global stories through a London lens. Politics, culture, music, sport, business, technology, fashion, and lifestyle, written for a generation that switched off from legacy media a long time ago.
We compete for trust, not just attention. Everything on this site is built around that.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. They are not influenced by advertisers, brand partners, investors, or anyone else with a commercial interest in what we publish.
London Baithead Ltd operates Baithead Studios, our sister business that handles brand partnerships and commercial creative work. The editorial team is structurally separate from the studio side. Brand partners do not see articles before publication, do not approve coverage, and cannot pay for favourable editorial treatment. They cannot pay to kill a story either.
Where content is sponsored, produced in partnership with a brand, or otherwise paid for, it is clearly labelled and excluded from our news indexing. See “Sponsored content and disclosure” below.
Editorial leadership
Editorial direction at London Baithead is set by Alpay Bugur, founder and editorial director, who has final accountability for what is published. As we recruit further editorial staff, their names, roles, and bios will be published on our authors page.
How we choose what to cover
We cover stories that matter to our audience and that we are positioned to tell well. That generally means:
- News with cultural relevance to Gen Z and Millennial readers in the UK and beyond
- London stories with national or international significance
- Original angles on major news events
- Topics where mainstream coverage has missed something we can see clearly
We don’t run press releases as news. We don’t republish wire copy as our own. If we cover a story another outlet broke, we credit them with a link.
Sourcing and verification
Every news article on London Baithead is checked for accuracy before publication. Our standards:
- Claims of fact are tied to a verifiable source, named where possible
- Direct quotes are taken from primary material, not paraphrased from second-hand reports
- Statistics, dates, names, and titles are double-checked against authoritative sources before publication
- Where a story is breaking and full verification isn’t yet possible, we say so explicitly in the article
- We do not knowingly publish claims we believe to be false or unsupported
If a single source makes a contested claim, we seek corroboration before treating it as established fact. Where corroboration isn’t available, we attribute clearly.
Anonymous sources
We grant anonymity only when:
- The source has direct knowledge of the matter
- Naming them would create a credible risk to their safety, employment, or wellbeing
- The information serves a clear public interest
- We have either corroborated the information independently or made clear in the article that the claim rests on a single anonymous source
Anonymity is never a shield for unverified attacks on individuals.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools, including large language models, as part of our editorial workflow for research support, fact-checking, draft structuring, and proofreading. Every article published on London Baithead is reviewed, edited, and approved by a named human editor before it goes live. The human editor takes full responsibility for the published piece.
AI is not used to fabricate quotes, manufacture sources, or generate images presented as real photography. Where we use AI-generated imagery for illustrative purposes, we label it.
Opinion, analysis, and reporting
We distinguish between three kinds of writing:
- News reporting: factual coverage of events, attributed to sources, written without editorial position
- Analysis: factual reporting with informed interpretation, clearly framed as such
- Opinion: the writer’s own argument, clearly marked
A reader should always be able to tell which one they’re reading.
Sponsored content and disclosure
Where content is paid for, sponsored, or produced in partnership with a brand, it is labelled at the top of the article with one of the following tags:
- Sponsored: content paid for by a brand
- In partnership with [brand]: content produced jointly with a brand
- Affiliate: articles containing links from which we may earn a commission
Sponsored content is held to the same accuracy and legal standards as editorial. It is excluded from our Google News indexing and our news RSS feeds.
Conflicts of interest
Writers and editors must disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationship that could reasonably be seen to affect their coverage of a topic. Where a conflict exists, the writer is reassigned or the relationship is disclosed in the article.
Imagery and licensing
We use original photography, properly licensed stock imagery, and content used under fair dealing for news reporting and criticism. Where credit is required, we credit the photographer and source.
If you believe an image on the site infringes your rights, contact legal@londonbaithead.com and we will investigate promptly.
Comments and community
Where commenting is enabled, our community standards (set out in our Terms of Service) apply. We moderate to remove abuse, spam, and defamation, but we don’t remove comments simply because they disagree with us.
Diversity of voice
We aim to publish writing that reflects the city we cover. That means seeking out contributors from different backgrounds, communities, and perspectives, and being open to criticism when we fall short. If you think we’ve missed a story or misjudged a community, tell us.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it visibly and quickly, in line with our Corrections Policy. Mistakes are not buried. Significant corrections are flagged at the top of the article with a dated note.
Tip-offs and whistleblowers
Confidential tips can be sent to submit@londonbaithead.com with “URGENT” or “CONFIDENTIAL” in the subject line. We protect the identity of sources who request confidentiality, except where compelled by law or court order. Where possible, we will notify the source before any compelled disclosure.
